Can you believe that we’re in November of 2023? Where have the last 10 years gone! The reality is that time has passed but also times have changed and a major topic in today’s world is mental health.
A previously overlooked and disregarded topic that has recently come to the surface of everyday life and has become a real talking point. Everyone has things going on in their life that can impact them mentally, including teens. As a mum we’re able to notice when our kids are down, or aren’t acting as they normally do, but why might this be the case?
Our kids are smart and they mature more and more everyday, so we have to face it, they’re growing up as much as we want them to stay as our little ones. This means they have more going on in their life which can cause them stress, create anxiety and change their mood. Communication is key, you don’t want to bombard your teen with attention or give too much advice as they can see this as you nagging them.
Try to organise a time with your teen where you can ‘hang out’ with them in a setting which isn’t seen as you asking them lots of questions, all you’re really doing is checking up on them. A great example is to go for a coffee or get your nails done, something informal to just give you a piece of mind that they’re okay. Strengthening your bond may even lead to them checking in on you too.
